Meet The Team – Simon Thurston – Strategic Media Director

What were you doing before you joined the team and how did you and Soccialy find each other?

“I worked at TES for 8 years leading their school recruitment team. I left there to work for the world leader in student recruitment matching universities, schools, and colleges with the right students from around the world.

Then when I then saw the technology Soccialy had created I jumped at the chance to join because this brings my two professional passions together and is an approach, I believe schools and colleges have been screaming out for. An easy-to-use, modern and cost-effective approach to recruitment.”

What’s your go-to playlist when you’re working?

“As I am writing this I am listening to No Doubt. I admire Gwen Stefani and was brought up listening to Ska and Reggae. Whilst in the office our go-to radio station is Mi Soul which is full of Disco and House classics that match the pace we seem to work at.”

What inspires you creatively?

“I’m at my most creative when out into the UK countryside watching what’s fly around in the air or swimming in the rivers. It helps me find a peace of mind that brings out the best ideas and solutions for both my professional and personal life.”

What’s your greatest achievement?

“I feel like saying my family, watching them grow into something beautiful is my greatest achievement but is that a bit obvious?!

I am genuinely proud of what we achieve as a team. That might sound obvious, but I see brilliant people produce brilliant solutions to help build a better environment for the customers we work with and feel privileged to have such talent around me every day.”

Any parting words of wisdom?

“Man be my metaphor. It is a line from a Dylan Thomas poem and to me it means that as mankind we have to strive to be the best we possible can be and to not stand still.”
